About Us

Nothing about Sleepy Hollows is new - but that’s just part of its charm…

This Adult-only/strictly 18+ campsite is a peaceful and safe retreat for those exploring the delights of County Donegal.

Dotted with ashes, oaks, rowan and more - we really care about our little campsite and aim to keep it a natural wildlife filled environment. There are many song birds darting about, butterflies, bats and lots of dragonflies at the right time of year. Deer, and hare roam locally, Kingfisher, Otter and long-eared Owl have been spotted down by the river amidst the sound of the busy Wrens and little Warbler birds - also a great spot for picking juicy wild blackberries at the right time of year.

A private footpath runs through the campsite down to The Crolly River, leading you south to Croithli and north to pick up the hiking trails towards, Bunbeg, Gweedore, Dunlewey, and Errigal - Sleepy Hollows Campsite is just a short walk from the edge of Glenveagh National Park. Our local area is surrounded by trails for hikers, cycle routes including the EuroVelo 1 Atlantic Coast Route, and plenty of dog walks. Kayakers and paddle-boarders can take advantage of the nearby slip with parking - dropping into the Beal Abhainn An Chladaigh - sea estuary, and just a two minute drive away.

We don’t charge extra for using the facilities - WiFi in communal zones, Equipped Kitchenette with free tea and coffee (please bring your own choice of milk), Mobile Device Charging, Sheltered Seating Area, Hot Showers, Communal Campfires, and a simple Dry-House for your wet gear or hand-washed smalls.

The Shack is part of the outdoor communal area that offers a crackling campfire to sit round most evenings, weather permitting - large pub benches and outdoor seating, all set on stone making it a safe space for barbecues.

We’ve tried to think of everything you might need to make your camping trip a nice experience - especially if you are travelling light. The little Campers’ Kitchen holds mugs, crockery, utensils, pots and pans. You have access to a kettle, toaster, microwave, fridge-freezers, washing-up station, and there’s also a two-burner electric hob to make a quick hot meal.

Our bathroom facilities are small, basic and for everyone - currently, 2 shower units with instant hot water, sinks to brush your teeth, flushing toilets (2 unisex, 1 womens). It can get a little busy during the morning rush-hour, so if you’re using them during this time try not to dawdle - there’s a 4-minute shower challenge that we encourage you to take part in!

We pride ourselves on providing a clean environment, however sometimes we do come across the weird and the wonderful - and it’s up to everyone to do your bit to help keep it nice for your fellow camper.
We’re striving to be green, so check how we recycle here. All our cleaning products are Cruelty Free and suitable for Vegans - we cannot guarantee that other campers might leave items in communal areas that are not recognised as ethical products.

The water on-site is safe to drink - there is a handy outdoor tap outside the campers’ kitchen to fill water-bottles, large containers, and we can provide a dedicated hose to connect to motorhomes and campervans to fill tanks.

Our facilities are open throughout the night - however, to save energy the showers hot water system is turned-off between 23:30 and 05:00 (water should be nice and hot still at midnight and by 05:30). Much of our lighting is solar powered, and we are conscious not to create unnecessary light pollution where possible - leaving you to enjoy the dark skies at night and to encourage our local bat population. All campers should bring a good torch or headlight, and sensible shoes.

The tent pitches are a very short distance from the car-park - you cannot park any vehicle next to your tent unless you are a cyclist, and there are places to lock your bikes. A couple of wheelbarrows are available to help carry the camping gear to the pitch. We only supply electricity to one tent pitch, and prefer to keep it accessible to those requiring a CPAP for sleep apnea. Our facilities have all the electric bits you should need otherwise. If you were planning on bringing an oil-filled radiator, TV or Projector, under-counter fridge/freezers, 3kw/fast boil kettles, and the like - then we are definitely not the right campsite for you.

The communal area includes a Dry House - a small dry space with hangers to hang your wet gear and clip-hangers for your hand-washed smalls. We don’t have washing machines or tumble drier here - our local Mace petrol station has large machines, and is just a 3 minute drive. Known locally as Stephen Ann’s, the Mace serves a nice coffee and a good bite to eat whilst you wait - and holds a good stock of food and drink for you to stock up on.

Pets
Pets are welcome by arrangement only - we must be notified in advance, and we don’t charge for them to stay. For advice on bringing your pets into Ireland please visit: www.pettravel.gov.ie

Remember to bring waste disposal bags - all mess must be cleared up onsite, and we provide a dedicated bin. Importantly we advise a flea and tick solution to be used prior to travelling - particularly if you are planning trips to any forests or beaches in Ireland where there is likely to be Deer and livestock. Please be aware some plants in the area are poisonous to pets, so they must be accompanied at all times. As campers travelling with pets ourselves, we’ve learnt a few tricks along the way - so we’ve compiled a bit of useful advice and links here: sleepyhollows.ie/about-us/pets
