Pets
As campers who travel with pets ourselves, we’ve learnt a few tricks along the way - so we’ve compiled a bit of useful advice and links. Pets are welcome by arrangement only - we must be notified in advance, and we don’t charge for them to stay.
Remember to bring waste disposal bags - all mess must be cleared up onsite, and we provide a dedicated bin. We stock packs of biodegradable bags that you can buy, and there’s a few that we leave by the dedicated bin for emergencies - so there’s simply no excuse for not picking it up.
We advise a flea and tick solution to be used prior to travelling - particularly if you are planning trips to any forests or beaches in Ireland where there is likely to be Deer and livestock.
A whiffy dog is a delight for the midges - so if you don’t want your pet to be bothered, we recommend you give them a good hose down or a bath and dry well. We carry a few spare old dog-towels, and are more than happy to lend or give them to you for your travel with your pet.
We mix a few essentials oils (citrus, mint/eucalyptus, and lavender) in a spray bottle with some water - and run it through our dogs coats and legs - this helps against the midges, and is also said to deter ticks and fleas.
Our area is rich with wildlife, and special care should be taken when you are walking your dogs down and along the Crolly river at the bottom of the campsite - it is not uncommon to spot Hare and Deer. Our local area is rich in traditional farming methods - and livestock are present. You must ensure that your dog is under control at all times around areas of livestock.
Please be aware some plants in the area are poisonous to pets, so they must be accompanied at all times.
